Mental Mediumship
Mental mediumship is by far the most common, however it is one of the mediumship gifts that is often way misunderstood. The reason being that one who believes they are in touch with the spirit person, is often only reading the energy of the sitter or individual in the congregation.Mental mediumshp is done through a mind to mind connection and the evidence that often comes through can be startling. However, one has to understand that the mediums mind can often get in the way of the message and color it with their own perceptions. The faculties used in mental mediumship are of course exactly the same as the psyhic though the difference is that a mental medium will be able to raise his or her vibration sufficiently to join with the spirit energy. They are able to actively work through the crown chakra, where psychic energy is very much located within the lower level chakras.

The Importance of Mediumship Evidence
It is important to ask ourselves exactly why ordinary members of the public seek out psychic mediums on a rapidly increasing basis and visit them for private sittings and/or public demonstrations of either mental mediumship or physical mediumship.Perhaps in the early days of a person's interest in the subject, we may see small groups of young people and work colleagues discussing 'psychics' and 'mediums' enthusiastically together as a form of 'entertainment'. The subject in its earliest evolution within our minds is often spoken about in hushed tones, as though it has a slightly magical, ghostly and exciting aspect to it.
The sad thing at this stage is that young people and those newly introduced to this general field of research tend to lump 'psychics', 'mediums' and 'fortune tellers' together as a single species until, through personal experience and wise education by caring teachers they have learned a little more about the subject and the subtle differences between the three categories.
Of course, amongst the younger set who may not have experienced serious bereavement in their lives, there is a certain desire to know about their future; their career path; their eventual marriage partner; the exciting events which they hope will crop up in their lives within a short space of time. I should point out that this early category rarely involves genuine and proper 'mediumship'. So, in order to 'test the water', they are likely to initially visit a 'fortune teller' such as 'Gypsey Rose Lee' and her many colleagues found mainly at the travelling fairgrounds and the seaside.
Often, with a few 'hits' during one of these 'cross my palm with silver' episodes, they feel impressed with what has come through at the 'sitting' and go on to develop a life-long interest in psychic matters out of these early excursions on the fringe of mediumship. That is perhaps the one benefit of 'Gypsey Rose Lee's' readings, although - where they are genuine - these fairground Gypsies rarely operate in a mediumistic way. Their psychic abilities should maybe put them into the category of 'psychics', but not mediums.
Sitters at the seaside will often experience accurate information about their past lives and current situations. The 'psychic' may well make a number of intuitive guesses as to what may befall them in the future. This information about the future is usually totally inaccurate. Although some of the information about the sitter and the sitter's past may be 'spot on', the way in which the 'psychic' has obtained that information is totally different from the way a 'medium' gets their information directly from spirit. To begin with, the 'psychic' has no actual communication with a spirit guide or helper themselves, as a medium does. Consequently, the information they receive from the fairground reader (even though much of it might be accurate) cannot be regarded as EVIDENCE of the existence of an afterlife. Their readings generally simply provide entertaining 'fun'.
The way that this works (and sometimes even the Gypsey Rose Lee's of this world themselves do not understand the Modus Operandii of their psychic talent) is that the psychic sits very close to the sitter, and introduces their hand, leg or head into the natural 'aura' of the sitter. If they are genuinely sensitive, they are able to extract information from the sitter's aura, which they then feed back to them. Any correct 'hits' obtained in this way can seem quite miraculous to the inexperienced sitter. This way of working is very simple to learn, and many of us can get fairly accurate 'results' by doing exactly the same thing whilst clearing our minds, then making a determined effort to develop this talent.
Mediumship is totally different! The job of a medium is to prove post-mortem survival to their sitters. Good mediums, whether operating on a mental or physical level, can take many years to develop their mediumship. A medium has direct contact with spirit personalities; guides, helpers and/or relatives, friends and acquaintances of the 'sitter' who have 'crossed over' and who are able to impart information either through a mental or physical process to the medium, who then relays their messages to the sitter.
If we look at the example of a court case - It is very important for the prosecutor - in order to 'prove' his case - to provide sufficient honest and accurate EVIDENCE for the jury to be able to make an informed decision as to the guilt or innocence of the unfortunate person in the 'dock'. The same applies when a medium is giving a reading to a client. The proof of Life After Death can only be arrived at by providing an absolute plethora of positive evidence; sometimes very small personal details which added together can be quite overwhelming in their accuracy, and are sufficient to establish the truth of the matter without any doubt as to the reality of survival.
We at ASSMPI recognise fully the need for every accredited medium to provide overwhelming evidence of survival through their own mediumship. We aim to help raise the standards and professionalism of mediumship generally to the highest possible levels, and then to ensure the maintenance of those standards of excellency and consistency within all of our members. Remember - the better the evidence - the more valid is the proof which we aim to present to the public.
